FREEBIE... "Sunday Will Come"

As most of you know, we've been fighting a cancer battle at our house this year.  We officially hit our half way mark with my husband's chemo treatments, but we've also hit a brick wall.  It's not my nature to complain... but this has been hard.  Really hard.  Although we've been incredibly blessed with phenomenal results and we know the cancer has had a total response to the chemo - living through the darkness and uncertainty of a very ill spouse has been a trying time.  With nearly 3 months to go before chemo is done, I sometimes feel defeated and don't know how we'll ever get there.

After a particularly draining week that depleted my soul, my sister sent me this quote and it was exactly what I needed to find a little stitch of light to dig a little deeper and face another day.  In fact, it's been such an inspiration and beam of light to me this week... that I made this for my desk and would like to share it with all of you.

Here's the quote she sent me:

"I think of how dark that Friday was when Christ was lifted up on the cross. On that terrible Friday the earth shook and grew dark. Frightful storms lashed at the earth. Those evil men who sought His life rejoiced. Now that Jesus was no more, surely those who followed Him would disperse. On that day they stood triumphant.  On that day the veil of the temple was rent in twain.

Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Jesus, were both overcome with grief and despair. The superb man they had loved and honored hung lifeless upon the cross. On that Friday the Apostles were devastated. Jesus, their Savior—the man who had walked on water and raised the dead—was Himself at the mercy of wicked men. They watched helplessly as He was overcome by His enemies. On that Friday the Savior of mankind was humiliated and bruised, abused and reviled.  It was a Friday filled with devastating, consuming sorrow that gnawed at the souls of those who loved and honored the Son of God.

I think that of all the days since the beginning of this world’s history, that Friday was the darkest.  But the doom of that day did not endure.  The despair did not linger because on Sunday, the resurrected Lord burst the bonds of death. He ascended from the grave and appeared gloriously triumphant as the Savior of all mankind.  And in an instant the eyes that had been filled with ever-flowing tears dried. The lips that had whispered prayers of distress and grief now filled the air with wondrous praise, for Jesus the Christ, the Son of the living God, stood before them as the firstfruits of the Resurrection,

Each of us will have our own Fridays—those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces. We all will experience those broken times when it seems we can never be put together again. We will all have our Fridays.  But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death—Sunday will come. In the darkness of our sorrow, Sunday will come.  No matter our desperation, no matter our grief, Sunday will come." - Joseph B. Wirthlin (General Conference, Oct 2006)

  7. Thanks so much for the post. Our family, too, is struggling. Not only with my husband, but my oldest child also--the end still isn't in sight for us. I, too, needed to see and hear Elder Wirthlin's words. THANK YOU!

  9. I have been helping a friend with cancer. It has been a challenge and a lot of hard work.. I have learned things about myself I didn't think I could do. It has also been a great blessing. Thank you for sharing that thought with all of us. Good luck in your fight. People sometimes forget about the caregivers. I'll never be one of those people again.

  10. Remember what Nephi taught, that God will not give us more than He will prepare a way for us to complete it.... Not that it will be easy or that we will have it done for us... But that He will prepare a way... The way is worth it... it's usually hard work... Mine has been... It's not over for me either... The refiner's fire is hot... nd uncomfortable... I hope that the gem in the end will be stunning... :) Since we are all Children of God... I'm sure it will be. We just need to keep Faith and Hope in our hearts. Good Luck!!

  11. Thank you for this. All of us go through hard times in different ways and at different times. So often it is hard to find the words of comfort that I'd like to share. I've decided to use your freebie to make some cards - with the graphic on the front and the quote from Elder Wirthlin on the inside front cover. I hope that they can bring some measure of hope to others and give me the words to say when I want to do something and just don't know what.
